I recently purchased the Blu-Ray edition of Steven Spielberg's classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind and finally got around to watching it this past weekend. The disc contains three versions: the original theatrical release, the special edition and the director's cut. I went right for the director's cut, having seen the other two versions many times.
Normally I would cheer on a film like Paranormal Activity. It was made on shoestring budget and managed be one the biggest movie successes in 2009 raking in over 100 million dollars at the box office. However, after watching it I am completely baffled by the positive critical response and by the buzz it generated. Ebert gave it 3.5 stars and it managed an 82% at Rottentomatoes. All of this while from my perspective pretty much failing at every aspect of film making.
Welcome to Sprock-Talk #9 where our discussion turns to the Oscars. Yes, it's that podcast. For a special treat our good buddy Jake Kiley joined us to rip, I mean, discuss the Oscars. You might know Jake from such films as 'Zombigeddon.' You are truly some lucky people. Let us know your picks for Oscars, or once they are over, how they were wrong. Enjoy.
So 'Family Guy' has another controversy going right now. Shocker, I know. On a recent episode the character of Chris starts dating a girl with Down Syndrome, not typically funny stuff but whatever. The girl ends up being a terrible person and Chris breaks up with her. During the course of the episode when asked what her parents do she replies, 'My dad's an accountant, and my mom is the former governor of Alaska.' Cue all sorts of laughter, stupid laughter if you ask me.
The $20 bit is an exaggeration, or not, I'm not sure how much the thing cost.
I grew up in Belle Fourche, SD. That's South Dakota not San Diego to our non-Dakota fans. I went through all of my school in Belle. During that time I was lucky enough to be involved in a lot of things theater. I loved that time, I really and truly did. Doing stage shows were always a lot of fun. It didn't matter the size of the role, big or small, the enjoyment was always there. Some of my favorite memories growing up are about different shows we did.
Everyone out there knows I am a huge nerd. Especially when it comes to DC comics. 'Smallville' is one of those things I don't talk about as much, because frankly sometimes it is pretty damn cheesy, but it is a show I thoroughly enjoy. Thanks to Travis Floyd for loaning me the series so I could see through season 7. Then on a snow day from work last year I picked up the season pass on iTunes for season 8. I was really digging it and enjoying seeing how it was progressing more and more towards the comics. The Justice League was finally coming together, Martian Manhunter was around and one of the most destructive villains Doomsday was lurking around. It was a good year. That is until the finale.
I know I've been a little sparse on posts lately. That is because the One-Act I wrote and directed with Jesse made it all the way to State competition. Things have been crazy getting prepared for that and then actually going down there. It has been a great experience, but also a drain on my blogging time. Now that we are all finished up I'm planning to get back onto a regular schedule with posts.
Sorry, couldn't think of something that rhymes with Swift to express how much I dislike this girl. Now don't jump down my throat saying she is such a nice girl. I'm sure she is a nice person, but I dislike what she represents to music in general.
I try to be funny with my posts. It doesn't always work, but I try and keep a light hearted-feel to my posts. This is not one of those posts.
I was taking a break from working on a video project and didn't want to watch anything I own so I decided to hit up Hulu. I have seen some pretty cool smaller movies and documentaries on there and decided to find something to kill some time. I stumbled on the documentary 'Hazed.' This caught my eye because the topic of this movie, the death of Gordie Bailey, happened when I was a student in Denver. I was an intern at the Fox affiliate and there was a rash of drinking accidents and deaths around the colleges in Colorado during a month span. Gordie Bailey died from alcohol poisoning after a night of partying as part of getting accepted into a fraternity.
This title is a little misleading, I'm not going to actually review 'The Phantom Menace Review,' I just wanted to let all you beautiful people out there know about this.
