OK, those that know me personally know I am no fan of Miss Gaga but I've never taken time on the site to talk to much about it. That is until now. Now I don't watch MTV, I don't have cable but if I did I still wouldn't, so I saw this all over the news today. Here is my thought on Gaga in a nutshell, I think she is a talented musician and can write really good pop songs with strong hooks but she fills everything full of bullshit so I don't care. If you love her, and there are tons of you out there that do, more power to you. That's just my opinion. One of the most played songs on my iTunes is a version of 'Bad Romance' done by the a ccappella group On the Rocks. I like it because the song itself is strong and when you strip away Gaga's bullshit it is a damn fine song.
My biggest problem with her antics is that I have seen it all done before. How quickly we forget Marilyn Manson. Oh yeah, that's because that's what we do with singers who do everything with a flair for the BS. Her performance at the VMA just proves all this. So she came as a man and stayed in character all night, good for her, too bad she's not an actor. She was awful. Seriously, nothing about her said man. Apperently she even went to the bathroom in character and used the man's restroom. So basically Gaga wants to be all method. A method actor is someone who stays in character the entire time. An example is Daniel Day Lewis. That dude becomes absorbed by his roles, when he made 'Gangs of New York' he would eat lunch across the room from Leonardo and stare at him like he was going to murder him. For another film where a played a wheelchair bound man. He never left the wheelchair. Actors and crew had to wheel him around.
Not the difference is, Day Lewis is a suberb actor, Lady Gaga is not. In most people's eyes being a method actor just means you are a huge dick. If you can pull it off you will be a talented dick, if you can't, well remove talented from in front of that. That's the closest Lady Gaga got to becoming a man right there.
