Beating a dead horse, but I LOVE ZOMBIES…
By MattS • Jun 9th, 2010 • Category: Friends of the Sprocket
To begin, I would like to thank the guys and lady at the Dirty Sprocket for letting me take part in this. I have enjoyed the work that they produce and envy them the time they spend doing it. I would also like to apologize to Mr. Olson for being, probably, the most annoying FAN-BOY out there. Hopefully, someone enjoys this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
What a world we live in. When people(namely myself) yearn for the day that a crazed walking corpse tries to eat me. I remember the day it started. I believe that i was about 6 years old. My aunt’s first husband was a Romero fan, and I was into scary movies. So, he being the sarcastic A$$hole that he was, he put into the VCR, Night of the Living Dead. The original black and white super cheesy zombie movie. In my opinion, still the scariest movie ever. I have never gotten over the impression it made on me. Not many times in one’s life can he pinpoint the exact moment that shaped him. That was it for me. I spent weeks hiding under my blankets waiting for the moaning to carry through my window. Never came, and i think it disappointed me.
Flash forward fifteen years, and Mr. George Romero’s work does it again. I went and saw the remake of Dawn of the Dead in theater and was blown away. Fast zombies, nothing a person could do. The world would come to an end if that happened. And surprisingly, I believe that I could survive it. Between the works of Romero and Max Brooks, I think that many people could. Though it would be tough.
To reiterate, Romero = The Stephen Hawking of the Zombie world and Max Brooks = the Rain Man of the Zombie world
So, until next time… tight clothing, short hair, and a sword… stay alive at all cost

Who the hell is this guy (or gal) anyway?
MattS is one cool dude. Having been born and raised on a Pirate ship, he felt like it was time to try something different. Enough water, it was time to be landlocked. In the early nineties his family moved to the Black Hills. He hasn't been able to bring myself to leave. Married with three gorgeous children, he doesn't have a lot of spare time. The time he does have is spent writing(the next great American novel), reading(anything he can get his hands on), and fighting fire(member of the BFVFD for a little over 3 years now).
