Forget what you’ve heard, 3D is tough.
By Monte • Nov 1st, 2009 • Category: Mont-agonRecently, I been playing with Carrara Pro, a 3d graphics program. I’ve been using this software since version 1, when it was Ray Dream Designer. I even remember talking to the company president on the phone when I upgraded to version 1.5. You’d think that after all these years I’d be better at 3d. The truth is I’ve never committed to the steep learning curve to go from novice to intermediate. From what I can tell, the basics of 3d graphics are easy, anything above that, no so much. The difficulty is in the complexity, so many simple little cogs necessary to make Dr. Manhattan.
My favorite part is modeling, that is creating the 3d model. My least favorite part is lighting, which, in my humble opinion, is really the most import part of creating a stunning render.
Anyhow, I’ll be posting some of my rudimentary experiments. I hope you enjoy.
Oh, and comment telling Derek to post some of his old 3d experiments.

Who the hell is this guy (or gal) anyway?
Monte is a sad, sad little man. Born and raised in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, he now lives there with his beautiful wife, Michelle Deyo-Amende, and two clever, healthy children, Miles and Madeleine. Sad. He is creative director, and a partner at TDG Communications, a successful advertising agency. Sad. Each day he must commute 30 minutes through pine trees and scenic canyons to his office in the historically colorful town of Deadwood. See, sad.

Von Varagon shall rise! Nice 3D, and if I ever get un-lazy I’ll get some of my stuff up.
