Getting Justified!

I meant to get this up a long time ago, but with the play, posting really took a backseat. Sorry. But I’m back fully now and I want to tell you how freaking bad-ass ‘Justified’ is. And before anyone says anything, the TV show not the shitty Justin Timberlake album.
The season of the show is getting close to being done as I write this, so again, this is kind of out-of-date. Still, you can catch sever episodes on Hulu and keep track once it hits DVD. This show is amazing. Truly it is. I have talked before about all of the shows I watch and enjoy, but I have to say, I think ‘Justified’ has overtaken all of them. I love it, I can’t wait for each new episode. I can’t even fully explain why, I just enjoy the shit out of it. Let me try a few though.
I enjoy serialized drama as much as the next guy. ‘24′ is one of my favorite shows, ever. I love watching a season long story, I become engaged by it and religiously follow some. Sometimes though, I just want a good story in one sitting. That’s what ‘Justified’ is. Each week is a new story, a new twist. The way the show works is there is an overall arc to the season that you can watch unfold in snippets each episode, but each episode is its own contained little story that builds on what came before it.
The story follows old-school US Marshall Raylan Givens played amazingly by Timothy Olyphant. While stationed in Miami Givens tracks down a gun runner and shoots him in a hotel pool. Because of this Givens is busted down to the Kentucky office, where he grew up. He doesn’t want to go, but he doesn’t have a choice. Back home he has to deal with his convict father, his ex-wife and her new husband’s problems, an old friend turned bank robber and the lovely Ava Crowder.
I don’t want to give away the story any further than this, because it is a joy to discover more of it each episode. One part of the show I really enjoy is the humor. This show isn’t a comedy but it keeps things light most of the time. It’s an enjoyable ride. That’s not to say the whole thing is fluffy, it can get very dark, very. That’s where the show’s strength is though. The minute you think you have the thing pigeon-holed they show you something new, unexpected and awesome. Seriously go check this show out. You will be glad you did.
